Today is Solar Day: Greater Cold (Da Han) Date: Jan 20, 2014 Energy meridians: Spleen. Organs: Spleen, Digestive system. Diet: - Lighter food with small amount of protein, more vegetables: cabbage, broccoli, lettuce, mustard, onion, parsley, peas, radish, pumpkin, spinach, squash, winter melon, lamb, beef, pork, chicken, salmon, crab and shrimp. Life Style: - Protect stomach and digestive system by eating less greasy, heavy food. - Keep body warm and avoid dryness. - Stay with local seasonal produce. - Finish “Winter pills” (Tonify Spleen and 3 Ginseng pill in the morning, golden cabinet in the evening) to prepare for spring! - Exercise: walking, Tai Chi, hiking, fishing, dancing, climbing and jogging. No excessive sweating exercise! Sleep: - Sleep early, get up early. Chinese BaBao ( Eight treasures) thick soup 1 cup sticky rice 1 cup lotus seed 1 cup Jujube 1 cup bean (red, or any kind) ¼ cup walnut 1 cup chestnut or peanut ½ cup raisin or dried fruit 1 gallon water Boil rice in the water for 5 minutes, reduce the heat to simmer and add lotus seed, jujube, beans, nuts and dried fruits for 30-45 minutes. Be careful not to dry out and burn. Serve with brown sugar or honey if desired!
