Today is Steves Birthday. For 30 years our family has celebrated Birthdays, Christmas, Anniversaries, and random events by going to dinner and a movie. 4 years ago today we went to dinner and a movie for our anniversary and Steves birthday. That night changed our lives in an instance when he was found unconscious in the movie theater bathroom with a skull fracture, lying in a pool of blood. The doctors told us they believe he was assaulted. I spent months wondering if he would live and years taking him to doctors and therapists and jumping through all the paperwork hoops. He has spent every day since trying to adjust to all of the things he has lost; physically and financially. Our extended families, friends, and co-workers, never left our sides. Many of them sat with us in hospitals and dr offices, and even drove Steve to his appointments, (6 hr round trips), and they continue to love us from a distance by reaching out and giving us encouragement. Our children have stood by us, supported us, encouraged us, and suffered in silence as they lost out on so many things that we would have otherwise been able to be a part of, especially now that we are across the country. Theyve never complained. Through all of this, though he still suffers every day, Steve has never complained one time. He suffers for days after preparing and leading Bible study, but he will never give that up. He has Never asked why. Never been angry. Never questioned God. We thank God for the blessings we have. And we have many... We live in a beautiful place with beautiful people (lots of them are my cousins, lol). We found a church full of Gods loving people, We are about to open a little country store, and God has worked it out for us to see our children and new grandson 2 or 3 times a year. Steve encourages me regularly to write a book about all this, If I do, it is going to be a tribute to him and his faith, for through all this he remaines a blessing to us all. Steve is my hero.
