Today is Tuesday, July 16, 2013 Today in U.S. Civil War History 1861 - The U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution recognizing George Brinton McClellan for his accomplishments in Virgina. 1863 - In New York, antidraft riots entered their fourth day. Order was restored the next day when Union troops returned from Gettysburg. 1863 - Colonel Robert Gould Shaw and 20 of his men were killed while attacking Fort Wagner.
