Today is White Ribbon Day. A day to stand up against violence - TopicsExpress

Today is White Ribbon Day. A day to stand up against violence against women. My personal experiences have shown me just how far we have to go to even look as though we are achieving this in our patriarchal society. No woman deserves to live through the experiences that I and so many of my friends have experienced and our children deserve so much better than that kind of role modelling. The police, the court system, Centrelink, CSA etc. all have a great deal to answer for in my experiences, of allowing systems that in effect support this kind of behaviour. So it is up to us - the people to take the stand and stop it in its tracks. My experience of silence in my own community was deafening because people were too embarrassed to say anything, too confronted, didnt want to be seen to be taking sides or helping someone air their dirty laundry etc. etc. too many blind eyes were turned which only shames victims into not speaking out themselves. This has to change. Brothers please speak out and speak up against ANY acts of emotional or physical abuse you witness against anyone (not just women!!!) We are all responsible. uncoversecrets.au/
