Today, HIV/AIDS continues to be a worldwide pandemic. Here are some facts about the global and local impact of this disease: Worldwide: - 34 million people are living with HIV/AIDS - More than 25 million have died - 2.5 million were infected in 2011 (7,400 per day) United States: - 1.3 million Americans are living with HIV/AIDS, and 1 out of 5 are unaware of their HIV status - 658,992 deaths so far among AIDS cases - 50,000 new HIV/AIDS cases occur per year Minnesota: - 7,516 reported living with HIV/AIDS - 3,459 deaths among HIV/AIDS cases - 315 new HIV cases reported in 2012 - Every 28 hours, someone newly tests HIV+ Since 1985, The Aliveness Project has served the needs of our local HIV community.
