Today is World Toilet Day, a day to raise awareness for those who do not have access to a toilet. In honor of World Toilet Day, WWR highlights one of our own! Meet 19-year- old Samuel Marseille- one of the original World Water Relief team members in Haiti and our Haitian Student Ambassador. Samuel is a member of the SWC (Sanitation Water Club) and teaches proper sanitation and hygiene habits to the students and community members of his town of Mirebalais. With both physical and financial help from WWR and Samuel’s friends from Wisconsin, he built his own family bathroom, complete with a cistern, shower and toilet! No longer do they have to go next door to use the neighbors bathroom. Not to mention, there is a door on the bathroom- for complete privacy! Samuel is an example of WWR’s sustainability model in action! We are teaching the youth to teach each other about the importance of good sanitation and hygiene practices, so not only can they improve and save their own lives, but those of their families and communities. What Samuel built for his family is amazing- a step towards equality and dignity for all. #wecantwait #worldtoiletday #opendefecation #sanitation
