Today is a day to reminisce of how House (yes it derserves a damn capital H) has changed my life. I was just 8 years old listening to my older aunts and uncles listening to this music I have never heard before. Saturday live night aint no jive and (in english womens accent) Get on down and party drops over this new music with this kick and electronic grooves on the radio. It was alien to me. But I can tell you, it was instant. I never felt more as one with music as I did ever in my life. It caused a spark. A spark that has intertwined with my DNA and I cannot ever escape even if I wanted to. It seriously changed my life as it did for many of us in the 80s. I went on to chasing djs in school dances to VFWs, to raves, & to clubs till I finally made the step myself. My family was never really super into what I do and what I support but my drive has never stopped. I can always say that Bad Boy Billl, Julian Jumpin Perez, & D.j. Hyperactive were my main inspirations growing up in the city. But if it wasnt for Frankie Knuckles and the founding fathers. Non of this would be here. I owe a lot to this man and I feel a need to say it. THANK YOU I always had a very upsetting feeling towards the fact that house was a universal non biased language. But this city has always been so segregated when it came to the white north side djs playing all the premiere places next to the black southside djs playing only for blacks on the southside. It is still here and hasnt really went full away. There has been a lot change but it is not enough. We all need to let go of this BS Chicago DJ politics once and for all. Im always proud that Im from Chicago. Regardless of how we bicker and dont support one another. We are one dysfunctional family. Let someone else say something about one of us and we jump at them. At least that is the way I am. ONE LOVE.....we all need to come together in this city and be positive. Stop looking on who was there when and whos new and whos white, brown, black, gay or yellow. Practice what your music preaches. I have always had much respect for the roots of house and I have always thought we take our artist for granted. I have always been an advocate when it came to support our guys here. Why look elsewhere when the best is right here in your backyard. I pound my chest proud being a Chicagoan.
