Today is a huge day. A day with happy feelings. A day with traumatized feelings. A day with proud feelings. And a day with feelings nobody should have to endure. 1 year ago today, was the day I went into labor 10 days early, on the 10th, in room 10, for 10 hours with my Benjamin Noah Crider. Little did we know what we was about to have to endure. At 3:01pm, a little 5lb & 8oz and 18inch little boy came shooting out of me and he did not cry. And I did not get to hold him. As I was in shock, I got a glimpse and was able to brush his face with a kiss before Dr. Gooding rushed him to the nicu. Why? Because he was born with CDH. 1 out of every 2500-3000 kids are born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia and my son was one of them. There is a 50/50 chance of survival and my son was one of the survivors. 1 year later, 14 week NICU stay, 3 surgeries, many doctors visits, many tests, many step forwards, many step backs, many milestones, many pictures taken, many feeding tubes, many cannulas, many boxes of syringes, many happy moments, many sad moments; I GET TO HOLD AND HEAR MY BENJAMIN CRY EVERY SINGLE DAY. We have met so many people in the past year who have became part of our journey and team & even if the reason why is awful, the outcome is truly the biggest blessing in my life. Thank you to everybody who have gotten us through our 1st year as mommy & daddy to Benny the survivor and thank you to Suzanne Rogers & Katie Goodson who is a big reason why my Benny is a survivor and is 1 years old today & a big part of his life. It gets hard sometimes but God chose me to be his mother and 1 year later, I think Im doing a pretty good job. Cant wait to celebrate many more birthdays for you my little mr. Num nums! Mommy loves you so much, happy birthday!!!!!!
