Today is a landmark in our countries future! For better or worse the lawmakers in Washington have voted to and have made law “Health Care Reform”! So for minute let’s dive into the reality of this law! However for a clear illustration of the new law- I want you to think about car insurance coverage as you read this! Keep in mind that most individuals would be terrified to drive without car insurance due to the liability that could devastate their net worth! Health Insurance is the same – Insurance is not about benefits it is about protecting risk! Like Car Insurance the Health Insurance Industry provides risk management – have you ever raised your deductible to lower costs on car insurance? Now let us compare! Car Insurance prices are based on the risk of your driving record which in many cases relates to your life style. So if you are reckless or impaired chances are that you will pay a higher premium if you are insurable. With that in mind the government has not mandated benefits into auto insurance as Health Care Reform has – Wellness programs! Health Insurance prices were based on your health and your risk! Now going forward! Again think about auto insurance as if the gov stepped in. Now the coverage is for everyone no matter what! Could you imagine how this law would impact you auto insurance? Now all of the sudden you are not in a risk pool but in the national pool of risk that through taxes – makes all insurable by law! It Gets Better!! What if the gov decided to impose car wellness in your coverage – free oil changes / door ding fixes / tire rotation / windshield repair – and included those (benefits) in everyone’s coverage by law?? I think prices would rise for ALL – just an insight!
