Today is a new day in the Fieldhouse. My kids deserve better. My wife deserves better. Maybe better isnt the right word, but they deserve me. All of me. So starting today, when the work day is finished, my phone is staying in my room. And I am giving my kids permission, inviting them even, to kindly remind me every time I dont follow my self imposed rule. I will ask them to say to me, Hey dad, be with us. Your phone can wait. And they are right. It can. Because no email, FB post, Runners World contest, TexAgs post, or tweet will change me from the inside out. But my kids have. Nothing I find on the internet will hold my hand, kiss my cheek, laugh at my jokes, dance with me, cry with me, pray with me, throw a baseball with me, or take care of me when Im old. But my kids will. And Im not doing this out of guilt. Im doing it out of anticipation of all the great things I will now get to experience that I would have otherwise missed. (P.S. This goes for my time with Stacey as well. No more laying in bed next to each other wasting time on our phones before we go to sleep. More reading, more praying, more talking, more dreaming, more laughing, more hoping, more confessing, more loving.)
