Today is a sad day for me. MY TRIBUTE TO ODHIAMBO T - TopicsExpress

Today is a sad day for me. MY TRIBUTE TO ODHIAMBO T OKETCH Today i mourn one of my best friend. I learnt quite a number of things from this gentleman. Besides the many laughters, we had several things in common: the passion to change the lives of those around us. We did this with resilience and determination. Oto is brain behind the Kenya Clean Campaign - something that county governments are struggling to implement. He supported a lot of charity work including assisting the less fortunate in the society through child support wing of KCDN. He was involved in environmental conservation through tree planting project in Komarock in conjuction with Eco Challenge. The fond memory of my life with Oto goes back to the time of campaigns. Despite our differences on a number of issues, we travelled to my home in Kisii after conducting a successful fundraising in Rangwe where i was the chief guest. Oto sat down with my parents and cracked stories of the ages. I was amazed at the mastery of the Kenya history and he quickly fitted into the company of my old parents. I left him in the company of my father and went to sleep on my own! Oto was comfortable. We managed to bring the diaspora together under the umbrella civil society movement called VVM after a very successful constitutional campaign. I was in the NO camp and Oto was in the YES camp. We differed massively on keys but this didnt square down our friendship. He appointed the director of KCDN and fired me the same month - Oto was maverick! He thought some words - charlatans, mandarins, musketeers etc. I will them. We had social drinks at the famous Komarocks Corner as we chat how Kenya will be a better place if everyone embraced cleanliness. Together with George Nyongeza of Bunge la Wananchi - we gave gifts to the orphans and destitute children a hope in Komarocks. A very successful annual event courtesy of KCDN. The story will be long. But sure i have fond memories of Oto. Oto was in high spirits when i visited him at KNH. I wish i could have taken a photo with you. I thought i would see you again. You were strong. In those two occasions i came to see you - you were an encouragement even by the number of people i found you addressing by your hospital bed. Let me be blank now - you are a great man i ever met in my life! This memories are my tribute to you. I salute you. I respect you, sir: straight forward man, a sharp shooter, courageous and a fighter/defender of the rights of the less fortunate. You led a successful peace campaign after the post election violence. May God rest your soul in Peace.
