Today is a solemn reminder of the sacrifices made by our men and women in uniform who proudly serve Canada in some of the most volatile regions of the world. Peacekeepers’ Day offers us a chance to pay tribute to the fallen and to honour those who take the risks and make the sacrifices to help those who are disadvantaged, ravaged by war, and who’ve known nothing but conflict and chaos. Around the world, Canadian peacekeepers offer a beacon of hope and much-needed security to the often-helpless victims of often-unspeakable tragedy. And today, in Angus, we honour two of our own. Master Warrant Officer Cyril Korejwo and Corporal Bruce Stringer, along with seven others, tragically lost their lives over Syria on August 9, 1974. It’s in their memory that this day was created and it’s in their memory that we pay tribute to the 116 peacekeepers who’ve lost their lives in the service of their country. We honour those who’ve fallen, and we thank those who serve. Lest we forget.
