Today is a very special day. It is Friday the 13th and today - TopicsExpress

Today is a very special day. It is Friday the 13th and today brings us a full moon. Over the last Century the full moon has risen on Friday the 13th 8 times. It will not do so again until Friday, August 15th, 2049. June 13th, 1919 Friday 13th, 1922 November 13th, 1970 July 13th, 1984 February 13th, 1987 March 13th, 1987 October 13th, 2000 June 13th, 2014 August 13th, 2049 There is a phobia associated with Friday the 13th. It’s called paraskevidekatriaphobics. But why is Friday the 13th considered a bad luck day. Because it was on Friday, 13 October 1307, that King Philip IV of France in collusion with Pope Clement V ordered the arrest of the Templar knights and their Grand Master Jacques De Molay. The Templars founded the idea of a mercantile system of banking and Phillip heavily in debt to the Templars wanted them destroyed. The Templar order was utterly destroyed and hundreds of Templar knights were executed. Jacques De Molay was slowly burnt to death seven hundred years ago in front of Notre Dame cathedral on March 18th, 1314 As he died in agony Grand Master Jacque De Molay screamed forth a curse against Phillip and Clement. Both the King and the Pope died within the year, Celment of illness and Phillip in a hunting accident. A combination of the arrests, the destruction of the Templars, the torture and execution of the Templar knights and the burning of Jacque De Molay and his curse followed by the death of King Phillip and Pope Clement V led to the rise of the idea that Friday the 13th was a day of bad luck. Added to this was the fact that Christ was executed on a Friday and the 13th place setting at the last supper was for Judas Iscariot. Personally I don’t believe Friday the 13th is a bad luck day but just to play it safe, Sea Shepherd ships do not leave port on Fridays unless absolutely necessary.
