Today is difficult as it marks one year since Ava was diagnosed - TopicsExpress

Today is difficult as it marks one year since Ava was diagnosed with retinoblastoma. It is hard to think of all that our little girl has been through in the past 12 months of her 14 months of life...2 MRIs with sedation, 6 months of systemic chemotherapy, 9 exams under anesthesia, 2 chemo injections, 4 treatments of intra arterial chemo, multiple laser and freezing treatments, weekly labs draws for at least 9 months, and countless hours spent in the car and away from home. Wow.. What a crazy, emotional ride it has been. While it has been sad and stressful and tumultuous, we have experienced more love, generosity, and genuine caring than we ever could have imagined possible. Family, friends, and even strangers have embraced our little family and helped us through the most difficult times we will likely ever experience and we are so grateful. We have found a home away from home where we feel comfortable and Ava has a wonderful time (RMH), hospitals that are THE very best in the country ( Wills Eye and CHOP) and happen to care for Ava as though she is their own, and a following of people who are kind enough to listen to/read Avas story and continue to think of and pray for her routinely. So... While things have been bad, theyve also been really good. We have been able to experience the good in people firsthand and watch our baby grow into a loving, funny, intelligent, sassy, and beautiful toddler who manages to amaze us every day. Heres to hoping for a happy and mostly healthy 2015... Thanks for reading!
