Today is holocaust memorial day, 70 years ago today the Auschwitz death camp was liberated and it still haunts me that it actually happened. I was fortunate enough to go with the the charity LFA (Learning from Auschwitz) in 2013 to go and visit Auschwitz and have seminars with a survivor in which he gave us great talks in great detail about his experiences in the death camp and it was an emotional rollercoster throughout my time in Poland. It was an eye opener and I will never forget my time there and what I saw and what i took away from that, something about going through the gates...and then leaving just gave me a feeling I wont forget, that I was able to LEAVE at my own will, I dont know, it was definitely an experience that i will never forget. When i was there I took photos, videos etc and some are on my profile, but most are still on my computer and most of which i havnt even opened since i got back, i will eventually put them online, perhaps not on fb though. Some may say to just leave what happened in the past and to stop bringing that up ( I got asked this when i was giving talks about my time there ) but i think it is of upmost importance to REMEMBER what happened and try are hardest for it not to repeat, but unfortunately similar situations are already reoccurring around the world and that is frighting to say the least. Sorry for the long post, the message im trying to put across is basically take some time out of your day today to commemorate those who lost their lives and fought through the death/concentration camps during the world wars (and of course all who have lost their lives fighting for their respective countries). One cant even imagine what it must have been like to be alive during those times. On a related note this may interest some of you. time/3678226/night-will-fall/
