Today is looking like old home week at music festival. Two of the most talented banjo players I ever had the privilege to play with are on the bill - Clyde Bailey of Appalachian Express and Lynwood Lunsford of Big Country Bluegrass. After Bob Schodt left our Family and Friends Hee Haw band we used several banjo players and Clyde and Lynwood are two of the best in the business. Eddie Gill is lead singer for Big Country and I watched him grow up, picking and singing with his Dad, Herman Gill. And Ive been a fan, and friend, of Appalachian Express since the band was formed back in the 70s...Bobby Thompson, Clyde Bailey, Earl and Cindy West make up one of the best bands in bluegrass. Also scheduled today is James King who used to live in Amelia County. We saw James a couple of weeks ago with the Paul Williams Victory Trio and he is quite ill...just a shadow of his former self...I hope he gets a liver transplant soon. Little Roy and Lizzie are on the bill....visited with them a few weeks ago at Kenbridge and helped Mel Payne show them around WSVS Radios historic Flatt and Scruggs. Doyle Lawson, who formed the original Quicksilver band while living in Keysville, is one of the headliners today, along with Rhonda Vincent and the Rage and Gene Watson and his Farewell Party Band will close the festival tonight with a 90 minute concert. Looking forward to a great day of music and good, clean country entertainment!!!!
