Today is my mothers 81st birthday. Im sharing some things she taught me, some of which, being stubborn as I am, I have not followed diligently, but, will eventually do when I grow up. Promise. 1. Always make a good first impression. Theyll figure out how crazy you are later. 2. Its not how much you make but its about how much you save. Youll be rich because youll always have money hidden away somewhere. 3. Routine is never boring. Work is routine. Now, get back to work. 4. If someone wakes you up to borrow money from you, dont be grouchy. She or he must be too desperate to do that. But lend them only half of what theyre asking for. 5. Never brag about who you are helping. You know it and thats fine. 6. Dont be a show-off then haggle with the tomato vendor afterwards. 7. Do not pluck your eyebrows. You dont want to look like everyone else. 8. Shun parties where they require you to dress up. If you really have to go, wear your diamonds. 9. Never trust anybody. Not even your husband. Especially your husband. 10. If you know someone is doing you wrong and it is not affecting you as a person, as your father used to say, Let them suffer. 11. Why do you have too many friends? I only have one friend and she died. 12. Quit laughing so much. Why are you always too happy? Are you insane? Happy Birthday, Mother.
