Today is my sons awards ceremony at McKinley. Here is a kid that was diagnosed with ADHD in kindergarten by 2 psychologists and a child psychiatrist. Disrupted class 21 times off meds and 0 on meds. Took himself off meds in 7 th grade with my blessings. It was a lower dose just meant to help him focus. He has been on the honor roll this whole year. I can not tell you how proud I am of this kid. He still talks nonstop and can not shut his brain down long enough to sleep, but in school he has taught himself how to focus. I bet I get a tear in my eye today for one more of my babies growing up too fast. I have 5 kids. Two married , one 19, 15 , and 11. For being a single mom for years, I can say that my kids have never been in trouble. Kept good grades and made me proud at every turn. Credit goes to their father and my parents for giving them a great support system. Guess I did something right in my life after all.
