Today is our first Diggers Member’s Garden feature! Thank you to Yvette from Strathmore Victoria for sending in these pics of her garden. Yvette says: My garden is full of surprises and needs constant attention as it has a humungous Oxalis problem! I don’t want to use any chemicals so each year I let the Oxalis have it’s time (golden blooms teasingly swaying in the sunshine) then I spend a few weeks pulling it all out again..discovering various plants in the lush undergrowth of those clover like petals . Meanwhile I spend time propagating flowering natives and cottage plants whilst also growing herbs and vegetables when I can, as I work full time. These pics are of our front garden. Lemon, Orange, Lime and Kaffir(Favourite!!!) Citrus…a gorgeous Lemongrass (with Foo the cat, drinking from an improvised birdbath) I have two Ballerina Apple trees which I grow chives around and nasturtiums up. I love the yearly Queen Anne’s Lace, Sweet Peas and Poppies , especially the Flanders! We get a lot of birds coming to forage about on the ground and flit from plant to plant for a nectar ‘hit’ too. I constantly research ways of using natural, non-harming techniques in the garden. My children bought me a worm farm for my birthday and I’m reaping the rewards of their hard work. It’s a constant battle in my suburban oasis…our messy garden draws regular looks from passers-by as surrounding frontages are very ‘tidy’ and structured but I LOVE my scraggly haven! P.S. If youre a Diggers Club member and youd like your garden to be featured here, please email [email protected] with up to 10 photos (with a least one photo with you in it!) and some words about your garden.
