Today is over, I hope there will be no repeats soon. Last night I took a tanker truck with 4000 gallons of Jet A up a mountain on a logging road in British Columbia to replenish a fuel pup at a helipad. When I started it was above freezing, but up Coho I hit snow. I could not get the lock off the chains, and I could not turn around, so I went forward. The helipad was a sheet of ice, at 5PM it was dark, and the truck slid to a stop, hopelessly stuck. I spent last night stuck in the mountains, out of cell coverage, could not get anyone on the VHF radio, I was stranded. I kept the truck running, so I had heat, but no food or water. This morning the pilot and crew showed up at 7AM. and we got the truck going. A cold, lonely mountain can be peaceful in movies, novels, and songs, but in reality, it sucks. Im glad to be sleeping in the hotel tonight. Everything turned out OK. Lessons learned, backup plans need to be in place and carry food and water.
