Today is prematurity awareness day. For me its a day to reflect on the many blessings my children have brought me. Not only the blessings of what true miracles each one of them are, but their early arrival brought me to my knees more times then I can count, they taught me about the strength of the human heart, they taught me about never giving up even when the odds are stacked against you. Those life lessons are not taught through a book, a class or on the Internet. They are taught by holding the hand of a child whos survival is hooked to a machine, they are taught by the doctor who tells you I am here to do everything I can to help your babies. I do not wish prematurity on anyone, the struggles my tiny ones had were terrifying, and still to this day scare me. My hope is one day all babies will be born full term and healthy but until that day comes my heart is with any family facing the challenges of prematurity.
