Today is puppy mill awareness day. It is a day dedicated to informing all people about the terrible conditions in puppy mills where most dogs in pet stores are from. Puppy mill is a slang term referring to a place where dogs are bred and raised for profit. They are USDA regulated and the dogs are classified as livestock. They have no concern about health, well-being or temperament. The dogs spend most of their lives in tiny cages as small as rabbit hutches and have little to no human contact. Shelters in this country kill 6-8 million dogs a year -not because they are sick or aggressive but because there are simply not enough homes. So please spread the word and opt to adopt, NOT shop. Theres always a dog in need that could be rescued.
