Today is really special. We made it through our first holiday without Dad and even though it was tender, we still had the joy of being together. Now,even simple things become supportive to the healing. Like, I am thankful for breakfast. I know. That sounds shallow but listen. I am thankful because I get to prepare a very special edition of my world-famous breakfast tacos for someone special. It was their request for their birthday. Then I am thankful for Christmas lights and trees. Because I get to spend the morning with that person and their brother decorating our home with all those lights and trinkets. Happy. Birthday to my sweet, smart and strong son Alex Holk-Smash. What a treasure you are to my heart.
