Today is the 10th anniversary of donning my headscarf as an act of submission to God. It was the best gift I could have ever given myself and has brought so much goodness into my life. There have been moments, particularly days in August every year :-P, that I have thought of removing it, but they are just fleeting thoughts that have never taken root. The benefits have overwhelmingly outweighed the struggle which is something I consider a true mercy. Thank you to my dear friend Regina for challenging me to the critical thinking that lead to my choice and to Mariam for giving me those first hijabs, some of which I still have! I love you both for helping me navigate through that time with strength and grace. Above all I am grateful to God for answering my sincere prayers and making this a easy and beautiful experience.
