Today is the 164th anniversary of the birth of Robert Louis Stevenson. He was a Scottish novelist, poet, essayist, and travel writer. His most famous works are Treasure Island, Kidnapped, and Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. He was forty-four years old when he died in Samoa. Stevenson was loved by the Samoans, and his tombstone epigraph was translated to a Samoan song of grief which is well-known and still sung in Samoa: Home is the sailor, home from the sea, And the hunter home from the hill.
