Today is the 206th anniversary of a historic concert performed at the Theater an der Wien in Austria. Why so historic? At that concert, the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven premiered not only his iconic Fifth Symphony, but also is iconoclastic 6th Symphony (Pastoral), as well as his Fourth Piano Concerto, portions of his C Major Mass, and his ingenious Choral Fantasy. If there was any doubt left that Beethoven was revolutionizing music, this concert dispelled it. The range of style and composition Beethoven displayed with these works is breathtaking.
