Today is the 36th Anniversary of the December 3,1978 Tornado Outbreak. On this day, Several strong tornadoes moved through the area between 1am and 4am including a F4 tornado that touched down in Bossier City. Five people were killed and over 250 people were injured during the entire event. Dr. Ted Fujita, who developed the Fujita Scale,(which measures tornado strength) surveyed the damage in Bossier City. spc.noaa.gov/faq/tornado/f-scale.html Here is a summary of the event: -(1:50am)BOSSIER CITY TORNADO: A F4 tornado touched down in Bossier City,LA destroying 75 homes, 51 businesses, and hundreds more with minor or moderate damage. An estimated 1500 people were left homeless. There were 2 deaths and 266 injuries or which 64 were serious.srh.noaa.gov/shv/?n=bossiertornado -(3:25am)A tornado touchdown west of El Dorado,AR. Six homes, four mobile homes, and several outbuildings were either damaged or destroyed. One person was killed and 7 other people were injured. -(3:38am)A F3 tornado moved through rural parts of Webster, Claiborne, and Union Parishes in Louisiana. Several homes and mobile homes were destroyed or damaged. Two people were killed and 4 were injured.
