Today is the 50th Death Anniversary of the 2nd Lt. Governor of Goa, Daman & Diu - Late Mulk Raj Sachdev. He died on 8th December 1964, at Raj Bhavan (then Cabo Raj Niwas) after suffering a heart attack, early in the morning. He was cremated at Miramar beach, where today stands a memorial, just behind the Miramar Residency/ Foodland - which is sadly & regretfully being given a harsh, step-motherly treatment. Neither is there any ceremony by the Government of Goa nor acknowledgement by the Office of the Hon. Governor. He is left forgotten & forlorn amongst bushes and garbage! Is it not sad that a person who died in harness as the Lt. Governor of Goa, Daman & Diu - First Person of the State is left orphaned, on the most famous beach of the capital city of our State, on his 50th Death anniversary? How can we be so insensitive? If this memorial was in any other country, they would have promoted it as a tourist spot, where we would go and pay to see. If the First Citizen of Goa State is forgotten this way, what can we expect of the Heritage sites, far away? I dread to think!!!
