Today is the 8th Deat Anniversary of my uncle K A Rajan , a pioneering Communist of erstwhile Kochi princely state .He was in the first group of Comunists in Kodungallur that included K Krishna Menon who attended Parappuram meet , Poet P Baskaran , V T Induchoodan T N Kumaran PK Abdul Khader John Vaidyar. Came into contact with A K G in Kanpur and later on instructions of Chadayamuri and Achutha Menon organized for first time railway labour from Kochi to Shornur.Later organized workers to form first union in Tata Oil Mill .Ernakulsm and lead the port & dock workers of Kochi .Was implicated arrested and tortured by policein the Edappally police station attack case when he was Local leader of Ernakulam party along with Com M M Lawrence . Years in jail & worked underground to build communist movement among peasants in Varandarappilly .After release led several AITUC unions .Arrested again following China India war.With CPI after split .AITUC state predident .KSEB KSRTC federation president MP from Thrissur Lok Sabha seat for twi sucessive terms . My icon in the family from my boyhood . Was responsible for my entry into journalism as a trainee under Nikhil Chakrsvarty in Delhi An abiding model and influence in my life An influence on my son Bala who came in touch with him as a kid while Rajan slowly retired from active politics in the 1990sfor health reasons .
