Today is the 9th yahrzeit of my fathers passing - 4th Tevet, 5766 (4th Jan, 2006). I have just posted the following on my FB timeline and thought it relevant to repost here as some of what I learnt about the Shoah came from reading a book called The Hiding Place by Corrie Ten Boom who later was recognized in Israel as a Righteous Gentile. Many years ago I read the book The Hiding Place, the story of Corrie Ten Boom. I was only a teenager then and the son of a holocaust survivor and in a way through her story I began to more fully comprehend what happened in Europe under the Nazis and to my father and his family. She truly was and remains a Righteous Gentile who deserves, no demands to be remembered forever and a day. The birth date and date Corrie left us, April 15, was also my late fathers ZL birthday - he survived Auschwitz and was liberated by the British on April 15 in 1945 and took this date as his rebirth date and this was the date we celebrated each year as his birthday. It is pleasing to know that two great icons in my life shared the same birthday. tenboom.org/
