Today is the big day! Covenant Creation Debate Were the “days” of creation in the Bible actually 24 hours, or much longer periods of time? Is the Genesis account accurate with what science has discovered? Is it possible the account was describing a functional creation rather than the origins of the material universe? The recent debate between Bill Nye and Ken Ham has once again ignited a renewed interest in the Bible creation account. One of the opponents in this discussion was advocating a Young Earth Creation viewpoint, common among many evangelicals today, while the other looked toward scientific evidence to disprove the inspired account found in Scripture. The results were that many went away from the debate undecided and left to wonder if any other options were available. The answer is a resounding “YES”! Authors Tim Martin and Jeff Vaughn penned Beyond Creation Science together in 2007 in an attempt to pull together both the “beginning” and the “end” of Bible in a harmonious fashion, concluding that other views of the Genesis account often result in the end-times madness that has haunted the church since the first century. The question presented by Martin and Vaughn is, “Suppose the Genesis account is about a ‘covenant’ creation instead?” In this debate, the question of the nature of the Genesis creation account is debated between Jeff Vaughn who affirms this position, and Rivers of Eden who takes an entirely different approach. Rivers of Eden, a seminary graduate, has devoted 25 years to Bible study and is convinced the creation account is of a geophysical nature, one that involved God’s preparation of the “land” as the future dwelling place for Israel. His more literal, exegetical style of presentation and convincing evidence are sure to captivate the audience as he develops compelling reasons why the Genesis account is not about the creation of the material universe, but rather testifies of God’s provision for His people. The debate takes place beginning Monday, March 17th at 8:00 PM (EST) on Fulfilled Dynamics Radio, on BlogTalk.
