Today is the birthday of Ellas Otha Bates, but you know him better as Bo Diddley (December 30, 1928 – June 2, 2008. Known for his trademark rectangular guitar, Diddley is cited because of his key role in the transition from the blues to rock and roll, and rock. He influenced many musical acts, including Buddy Holly, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, Elvis Presley, and The Beatles, among others. His driving rhythms and hard electric guitar sound and a signature beat. The beat is still a cornerstone of hip hop, rock and pop.
