Today is the birthday of Scottish poet Robert Burns (born in 1759). Robert Burns Day is celebrated today around the world with much drinking, and haggis and long speeches. Burns, the son of a poor Scottish farmer rose to be recognized as Scotlands most appreciated poet. He is best known for the words that have become a standard played all over the world on on New Years Eve Auld Lang Syne. A Fond Kiss was also very well known.
