Today is the birthday of one of the most important figures in American music, Hank Williams(b. September 17, 1923 – d.January 1, 1953). Though he started playing music in front of audiences as a young man, his breakthrough came in 1946 when Fred Rose signed him to a 6 song deal. The songs caught the attention of MGM Records. Williams signed with MGM. Hank Williams released 61 singles and had 11 number 1s. He wrote the majority of the songs he performed. Among his most famous are Im So Lonesome I Could Cry, Cold, Cold Heart, Jambalaya, I Saw The Light and Lovesick Blues.
