Today is the day; THE day. At 2 am, weary from a long day of campaigning, Senator John Kennedy of Massachusetts arrived at the Student Union at the University of Michigan. 2 am! and there was a crowd of students eager to hear the Senator, a candidate for president. Kennedy asked the crowd - how many of you are willing to give up a year or 2 or 5, to go to the farthest reaches of the world and represent America and serve humanity? And so the idea was born, the idea that became the Peace Corps. And today we hear that the applying class of 2014-2015; those applying to serve, is the biggest ever. The desire to serve is strong; the desire to make a difference is strong. Happy Birthday Peace Corps!
