Today is the day we say goodbye to Mary Weaver. Mary came to the Peoples Peoples Organization for Progress after he son Randy was murdered by the East Orange PD in what amounted to a police drive-by. She approached POP as a bereaved mother looking for answers, but quickly became both a community leader and an officer of our organization. Mary was a retired US Army sergeant who was understandably uncertain when POP opposed the invasion of Afghanistan. But her caution and doubt faded as she grasped the link between the United States wars abroad and the wars on the streets that had taken her son. Mary was our best. She was a comrade and a friend, long live the lessons of Mary Weavers life… Mary Weaver, Ashé! Comrade Weaver, Presenté!
