Today is the day when I have to go to Supply and turn in all of my issued gear. Ive been procrastinating in doing this for two weeks. I just dont want to do it. If you can think back to September 26, 1996, thats the day I came out to Camp Pendleton to serve with the 1st Marine Division. I never left. Ive served with my Marines for 18 years now. Ive found that it can define you. My Marines gathered and threw a Farewell celebration for me last night. I was thanked by everyone for what Id done for them. I just couldnt find the words to thank THEM for what theyve done for me for half of my life (actually, ALL of it, if you consider that my father served for almost 30 years in the Corps). Semper Fidelis, or Semper Fi for short, is their motto. It means Always Faithful. That resonates with me, and it always has. So, to my Brothers and Sisters whom Ive served with on five continents, I say Semper Fi, its been an honor with depths that escape my description. Hats off to The Corps.
