Today is the end of our 7th successful strawberry season. Lara - TopicsExpress

Today is the end of our 7th successful strawberry season. Lara and I (Kevin) want to thank you for coming to our farm year after year. Our farming career, which the vagaries of life chose for us after each of us spent 7-8 years pursuing engineering degrees followed by 7 years practicing engineering, has been a rollercoaster ride of crazy weather, experimentation with different crops and methods, learning the hard way what makes money and what doesnt, and constant worry about our future. The one sure thing that has kept us going is the knowledge that you, our customer, have been there for us rain or shine. Thank you for your business and your loyalty. I am writing this in response to rumors that the farm has been sold. The farm has not been sold, but regrettably I must report that the owners of the land, my 5 aunts and uncles, and my father, are actively pursuing the sale of the entire farm. My grandfather passed away in 2011 and at that time a majority of his heirs were ready to cash out. Unfortunately for us, the value of the land is so great that we (my father, Lara and I) cant possibly buy out the other owners interest in the land. The good news is that my father is 100% committed to our farming operation and is actively seeking to purchase a nearby replacement farm with his share of the land sale. We will not be able to purchase a new farm until this farm sells and so we are in a race against the developers who are rapidly snapping up all the remaining large tracts of land in this region. Lara and I will continue to farm one season at a time as our future is very uncertain. Our uncertainty is shared with our employees who deserve the lions share of the credit for creating the family friendly atmosphere on the farm. They are like family to Lara and me and we are deeply mindful of the impact this will have on their lives. So what do we know about the future? We will definitely have a fall pumpkin season this year and strawberry season in spring 2015. After that who knows? Please continue to support us with your patronage and we will strive to provide a fun, wholesome, and economical family experience.
