Today is the final day of Mental Illness Awareness week. I thought - TopicsExpress

Today is the final day of Mental Illness Awareness week. I thought it would be appropriate to share some things with everyone in light of a project I was assigned in English, and in light of this week. In my English class we were given an assignment to pick a community of intolerance, and there was nothing else I could even consider choosing than mental illness. Delving into research I found statistics and realized the community was smaller than I thought and the amount of intolerance, direct or not, that goes into the mental illness community is too much. There shouldnt be any, but we dont live in a perfect world and I dont expect any change. I dont expect insurances to start covering therapy and psychiatric help, but mental illness still exists and is a real thing not to be taken lightly. Dont self diagnose yourself with depression because you feel sad for 2 days because your boyfriend broke up with you and dont tell people who have been diagnosed by professionals that itll go away or theyre just feeling sorry for themselves. The discrimination towards people with mental illness is as big as discrimination towards people in the LGBTQ community. Dont you think we should be aware?
