Today is the final performance in Kimball, Nebraska and this has been the best rodeo we have had here. Great crowds with a lot of enthusiasm and a great bunch of cowboys that helped make this a success. Tomorrow the boys will all be in Stoneham to wean and brand this years’ crop of colts and I’ll head to Douglas. They won all but fourth today in the steer wrestling with the champion being Brian Snell from Wheatland with a 4.7. Brian’s traveling partner, from Wheatland as well was the veteran Dean Finnerty with 6 flat and Linderman winner Trell Etbauer snuck in there for third. In the team roping the $1015 first place checks went to former college cowboy Tyler Schnaufer and his partner Ryan Zurcher from right up the road in Torrington, Wyoming with a nice 6.3 run. Clay Norell and Cullen Teller were second, a pair of Oklahoma cowboys Andrew and Reagen Ward were third and Pate Norell (brother to Clay) and Randy Mekelburg from Yuma were fourth. In the saddle bronc riding once again it was the great all-around Trell Etbauer taking home the $902 check for first place with a 73 on B46 China Doll. This is the first bronc Trell has been on since May but he didn’t forget how to ride. Another $100 and he will be eligible again for the Linderman award so he has to enter up. Nick Shenold of Glenco, OK was second and Lyle Welling and Roper Kiesner were the bottom two spots in the payoff. In the tiedown roping it was “the champ” Trevor Brazile putting on a show for all these Nebraska folks that came to watch him winning the event with a 9.6. Tying for second and third were Don Coffell and Clete Scheer (older brother to Cort) with 10.2 and fourth went to mountain states circuit cowboy Britt Bath with 10.6. In the steer roping, the first round went to Rocky Patterson from Pratt, Kansas with a time of 11.4. Chance Kelton, Chris Glover and J D Yates also picked up a go-round check. Second generation roper Jess Tierney scooped one up in 11.3 to win round two. Will McBride, J Tom Fisher and J D Yates also earned a check in round two. The average went to JD, who placed in both rounds and left Nebraska with nearly $2300 to the good. Merino, Colorado’s Chris Anderson was second, Randy Mekelburg was third and Trevor Brazile collected a fourth in the average. Thanks to the 49 steer ropers that came here and helped make this a success. The fast time today went to former world champion Brittany Pozzi with an 18.36 but the first place check and buckle belong to Mary-Cecilia Tharp with her 18.06 last night in the slack. The final check was for an 18.39 (eighth). Not a single qualified ride in the bull riding but like 4-H, everybody gets a ribbon. The ground split gave each man $427. Really!! Thanks to this committee for having us back. Stay tuned next Thursday when we start at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas. Until then….. HAPPY TRAILS! Rodeo Rose
