Today is the first day in the 2 months since I started my new job that I have felt fulfilled in something I did. I received a phone call from an Alachua Co parent who was concerned about her daughters graduation and post HS future. After listening to her vent, explaining grad req concerning level 1 courses (bc there had been some misadvisement), EOC waivers, and college entrance she just sobbed in relief!! Yes maam, even though your daughter has a learning disability she can still take those courses for standard diploma, the law says she is eligible for a waiver and she can go to college and be a successful/tax paying member of society. Wow!!! I felt like a parent advocate....scary considering they could sometimes be my biggest nemesis in my previous job. She is successfully equipped for her IEP meeting on Monday! Aaahhhh!
