Today is the first real cold day near Chicago and a chilling - TopicsExpress

Today is the first real cold day near Chicago and a chilling reminder that Old Man Winter is knocking on the door and that I personally prefer warmer climates. However, with Thanksgiving just around the corner, I want to be one of the first to say thanks for what life has presented to me and for the choices Ive made! - For the first time Im going embrace the cold by remembering that living here was a choice. No one forced me to move from SoCal. I certainly didnt move here for the winters, but instead for the opportunity to be closer to family, explore new business opportunities and live life as it comes to me, my family. Had I (we) chosen to NOT move here, Hailey Royce would not be an accomplished show jumper at only 10 years old. Carolyn Snider Royce may not have found her place as a talented corporate HR Executive and I would not have had the fortune and challenge of turning around two NASA regions. I would not have had the very special opportunity to work closely with my parents (Lynda Royce and Lyle Royce) and Hailey would not have such a wonderful and close relationship with them either. I have made great friends and genuinely love many things about the Midwest culture that does not exist in other places. I do miss many elements of SoCal and lament about the Chicago weather a bit too often, maybe. But after nine years, I have no regrets and have come to realize Ive grown immensely through change and risk associated with the move to Chicago and it will always be a special place to me. Reward seems to be directly proportioned to risk and Im very optimistic that 2015 will be the start of another adventure that I hope is just as wonderful an experience. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, thank you all for being my friends, even if just on FB. Embrace life - you get one shot at it!
