Today is the solstice, roughly translated it means the day the sun - TopicsExpress

Today is the solstice, roughly translated it means the day the sun stands still. It is the shortest day in the northern hemisphere, and the longest in the southern. Short of Wicca, I dont think any modern religion even takes notice. As a Deist I find it quite reasonable to mark years by this phenomenon. It seems ancient culture also took great interest in this as it could literally mean their lives. God leaves us clues all the time. If events were random, there is no way we could know when to plant, know when to slaughter, or anything else based on weather. We superimpose the calendar over the seasons to keep them straight, but the solstice, and equinox work just as well. Our God given reason hard at work. Seeing that the seasons are so cyclical, gives me hope for my own rebirth after death. As one cycle ends, another begins. I cannot fathom how this would transpire, but it took us human beings a while to figure out the solstice too. Be well Freethinkers.
