Today like always, Africa is chasing symptoms and may be, cosmetic cure but the real cure is in the prevention and honestly the ebola epidemic was avoidable. Remember Liberia and Sierra Leone, the two countries ravaged by the disease, were involved in needless, selfish and debilitating civil wars that completely destroyed their infrastructure and human resource capacity to mitigate or even manage this sort of disease outbreak no thanks to Samuel Doe, Charles Taylor, Koromah and other senseless war-mongering leaders. As for Nigeria, years of military kleptomaniacs and a civilian government with crass ineptitude and lack of direction meant that no serious investment was made in health infrastructure. That we still have a leadership utterly bereft of decisive and proactive intervention at all levels has now left us all panicky and wantonly vulnerable to what could well become an international desaster of imminently alarming scale of loss!
