Today marks on of the most important dates in human history. On March 1st, 1954, the United States conducted the Bravo test on the island of Bikini in the Marshall Islands. It was the first test of a deliverable thermonuclear weapon that used solid fuel. The test went wrong from the beginning-the use of lithium deuteride was untested, and resulted in a yield two and half times the predicted size. The results were ominous. Radioactive fallout immediately covered an area of several thousand miles, and fallout was detected on American soil. 26 servicemen were contaminated, as well as inhabitants of the Marshall Islands, and the fisherman on a Japanese tuna boat, the Lucky Dragon, that was outside the test zone. One crew member died from radiation sickness. This important event marked the peak of the cold war. The Soviet Union would soon have monster nukes of their own. Mankind now had it its disposal, the ability to wipe out all life on earth. And so, the deadly dance of the Cold War began. I have decided to update my blog, so please visit if you want a brief history. I created this blog for understanding, and peace. endtowarnow.blogspot/ Heres a clip from that event. Peace, to all of us. youtube/watch?v=wwGTVjTCCj4
