While the risk of a tsunami to occur here in west central and southwest Florida is relatively low, it is not impossible as some earthquakes do occur in the Gulf of Mexico. Since records began however, tsunami waves recorded along the Gulf Coast have all been less than 1 meter (3.28 feet) high.
