Today marks the 13th anniversary when Mayor James J. Eagan (1926-2000) was lost to our city/state/country. It was an honor to have been on the Florissant City Council while he was our Mayor. Mayor James Eagan died November 2, 2000, at the age of 74; Mayor Eagan served as Mayor of Florissant 37 years and was believed to be the second longest serving mayor in the United States. He was a dedicated family man with 10 children and 16 grandchildren. Always a presence in his beloved City of Florissant, Mayor James Eagan left a legacy that will be seen and felt forever. Mayor Eagan was always available to his community, and no one can ever truly take his place. Being mayor was not Eagan’s job-it was his life. His broad smile and welcoming style are now part of Florissant’s history. Missed by many!
