Today marks the 46th anniversary of Loving v. Virginia, the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that declared unconstitutional any ban on interracial marriage. In effect the ruling said the government had no compelling reason to prohibit marriage between two persons of differing racial background. The ruling said nothing about religious institutions being forced to go against there doctrinal positions and perform marriage ceremonies. Does any of this argument sound familiar today? It should.
