Today marks the 47th death anniversary of Madar-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah. Fatima Jinnah was one of the founders of Pakistan and was of huge support to Quaid-e-Azam during his struggle for Pakistan. She acquired degree in dentistry from University of Calcutta and she used to give advises to her older brother Muhammad Ali Jinnah during the partition. She criticized rule of the British and was a strong supporter of the two nation theory. Fatima Jinnah was a core member of the All-India Muslim League as well. The iconic lady jointly formed the Pakistan Women’s Association, which had a profound role in the settlement of the migrants coming to Pakistan from other parts of the sub-continent. After Quaid-e-Azam passed away in 1948, she was absent from the political scenario till 1962 when she took on military dictator Ayub Khan in the presidential election, which she lost due to alleged rigging. She passed away in Karachi on 9th July 1967 due to prolonged illness. Her legacy continues to live on till this day. She is cited as Madar-e-Millat (Mother of the Nation).
