Today marks the Global Day of Action on Military Spending. Malaysian government allocated RM14 billion for security but only RM10.7 billion for healthcare under the 9th Malaysia Plan (2006-2010). Under 10th Malaysia Plan (2011-2015), the allocation for security increased to RM23 billion. On 14 May 2008, Najib told Parliament that the 2 Scorpene submarines alone cost €999.15 million, that is about RM4.5 billion by todays conversion rate. Do we really need the submarines? Wouldnt it be better that such money be used on upgrading the healthcare, education, housing for the people instead of buying arms? Malaysians demand the decrease of arms spending and transparency in arms procurement!
